Before you call us
It is worth checking the overflow relief gully before you call - the grated drain outside, usually near the bathroom wall. If it is overflowing, that is the system doing its job, protecting the inside of the house, and it tells us the blockage is in the main sewer line rather than the fixture. Mentioning it on the phone changes what we bring. A quick look outside helps. Find the inspection opening - usually a capped pipe at ground level near the boundary - and tell us whether you can see it and whether it is clear. If we can access it, the job is quicker and we are less likely to need to work inside.
